Mozy

Anyone seen Mozy? It’s a great little application. If you’re anything like me (and for your sake I hope you’re not), you’ll know that you should be making regular backups of your important data. But if you’re anything like me, more often than not you either forget or just plain can’t be arsed.

As an IT professional I am horrified by my own personal habits when it comes to data integrity and security – I’m useless – which is why I really like this service. I recommend you give it a go if you’re not backing your stuff up on a regular basis.

It’s really very simple. You download their little app and install it, configure your backup sets and off it goes – encrypting your data (so no-one else can read it) and storing it safely online. It’ll allow you to choose a schedule for your next backups, ensuring that you get continuous data protection without you having to remember to do it.

You get 2Gb of free space which you can upgrade to 5, 30 or 60Gb if you so wish – but for my really essential stuff the 2Gb free account has been more than adequate. The only gripe I do have is that the client is currently Windows-only, which sucks. There is a Mac OS X client promised which is good news, but I’d also like to see a Linux client…
